Anna Kass was born in 1986 in Tyumen, Russia. She graduated from the St. Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design and the Moscow School of Contemporary Art (MSCA). She is an artist, designer, and photographer. Her works have been exhibited at contemporary art fairs and exhibitions. In 2023, she held two solo exhibitions — at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve and Gallery M2. Anna also creates series of works in collaboration with different industries. One project focused on aviation and was realized in collaboration with a Russian airline at VDNKh in Sirius. Anna's works are in many private collections.
In her artistic practice, Anna Kass turns to themes of Russian folklore and literature. Inspired by fairy tales, Golden and Silver Age poetry, classical music, and the beauty of Russian nature, she blends the abstract and the figurative, creating misty images that allude to one theme or another. Her recent projects explore Russian traditions through the lens of contemporary art and philosophical reflections on the fragility of existence. A mixture of styles and techniques, multilayeredness, and the fusion of the abstract and the figurative are central features of her painting and graphic art.
Anna Kass: “Recently, I have been most inspired by Russian culture, folklore, and Russian landscapes… This is an endless source of ideas for my work. Through painting and photography, I try to find a new boundary between the past and the future. Using artistic metaphors, I seek to immerse viewers in the world of their innermost memories.”
