About the artist
Sibel Kirik’s paintings are a metaphor for the state of struggle. The artist creates dystopian spaces in which figurative imagery is intertwined with abstract flashes of bright colours. Thus, she endeavours to depict the situations of conflict and change that inevitably occur in the conventional space and time – each image existing on the pictorial field inevitably experiences its own destruction. The artist emphasises this sense of conflict and chaos through the distortion of forms and uneven application of colours.
