Sibel Kirik

About the artist

Sibel Kirik was born in 1979 in Turkey. Graduated from Yildiz Technical University at the Department of Gravure and Engraving (Istanbul, 2000). Received a master’s degree in Painting from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Istanbul, 2010). Participant of Manchester Art Fair 2023 (2023), Contemporary Istanbul (2023). Received an honorable mention in the Çukurova University Printmaking Competition (2006) and Ahmet Merey achievement award in painting competition (2006).

Sibel Kirik’s paintings are a metaphor for the state of struggle. The artist creates dystopian spaces in which figurative imagery is intertwined with abstract flashes of bright colours. Thus, she endeavours to depict the situations of conflict and change that inevitably occur in the conventional space and time – each image existing on the pictorial field inevitably experiences its own destruction. The artist emphasises this sense of conflict and chaos through the distortion of forms and uneven application of colours.
