Anna Kanfer’s works from the “Memories of a Wandering Soul” project are based on sketches and impressions of places the artist has visited over the past year. These places not only have historical significance but also serve as a catalyst for her sensations, becoming conduits for new artistic experiences. Light in the works emerges as an independent entity, sometimes tangible and warm, sometimes almost ghostly, permeating each canvas and linking disparate memories. Each painting becomes a reflection of an inner journey, where the memory of place and perception are woven into a single visual narrative.
A recurring image in Anna’s works is the “storyteller,” a black sphinx cat. In global culture, cats often act as guides between worlds. In the artist’s mythology, this character accompanies the viewer through the timeless space of her works, acting as a mediator between realities and alluding to the helper creatures of Slavic folklore.
