EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION

Katya Shinkareva’s new series of works is based on the idea that each person’s perception of the world is shaped by their individual life experiences. A collection of random impressions becomes a kind of filter through which the artist interprets reality. This is followed by a subjective transformation of reality — subtle, ethereal layers coalesce into a single image that finds its visual expression. Trained in both classical and contemporary art, Katya Shinkareva operates at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Her paintings play with abstract forms and light contrasts, constructing enigmatic landscapes.

In certain fragments of the series “A Collection of Coincidences,” one might discern the contours of familiar natural forms, as if dissolving into the depths of color. At the same time, other parts of the compositions are charged with stark contrasts of light and shadow, creating dynamic tension and a sense of movement. Alongside the conceptual framework, the very process of creating a painting holds significance. Sometimes, a fully formed idea is transferred from a sketch to the canvas and remains unchanged until completion. Yet at other times, a new vision emerges mid-process, transforming the artistic image. The act of painting becomes an unpredictable journey — one whose outcome may shift over time. The exhibition features nine paintings and one 3D-printed object, all created between 2021 and 2025.
