Mikhail Dobrovolsky

About the artist

Mikhail Dobrovolsky was born in Voronezh in 1994. Graduated from Voronezh State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, specializing in architectural engineering (Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees). Works in various media focusing on painting, graphics, objects and sound. Collaborates with the galleries “H.L.A.M.” and “Utilization”, self-organization “High Five” and researcher of contemporary art Vlad Strukov. Participant of art residencies “Vyksa” and ” Radiance”, Cosmoscow and blazar fairs.

Mikhail Dobrovolsky works with the image of violence that anyone can encounter on a daily basis in today’s aggressive urban environment. Capturing everyday regular actions, he takes them to the point of the absurd to reveal conflicts that people are so accustomed to that they no longer pay attention to them. The artist examines how violence manifests itself through physical contact, verbal and non-verbal communication, and the transformation and transmutation of the corporeal.

The works are in the collections of Anton Kozlov, Pierre Brochet (Moscow), Andrey Malakhov (Moscow), Evgeny Khamin (Voronezh), as well as in other private collections in Moscow, Voronezh, and London.
