Planetary Nebulae

EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION

Rostan Tavasiev has been developing art projects for outer space for several years now. This idea was based on a discussion between the artist and astrophysicist Sergey Popov. Further deepening his knowledge, Rostan Tavasiev graduated with honors from the Fundamentals of Astronomy course at Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2020.

The “Planetary Nebulae” exhibition presents the first ideas of Rostan Tavasiev’s space sculptures. In a series of paintings one can see what shapes the artist plans to give to nebulae by influencing the clouds of cooling plasma of shed star shells. At the same time, the artist develops color solutions in painting based on the colors of spectral lines of chemical elements in space.

These projects will take at least twenty thousand years to prepare and implement. The size of such a sculpture is comparable to the size of the solar system, and can reach thirteen trillion kilometers.

The planetary nebulae formed according to the artist’s designs can be observed in outer space for at least ten thousand years. Then the matter forming the nebula will start to cool down gradually.

You can view the planned locations of the planetary nebula sculptures on the star map.
More details about each object can be found on the website: catalogofartprojectsinouter.space

The title CAPOS(PN) 0001 is an English acronym for “Catalogue of Artworks in Outer Space (Planetary Nebula)”, followed by the catalog number.

The artist expresses his sincere gratitude to an astrophysicist and popularizer of science, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Popov, without whose cooperation this project would not have been realized.
